The Wallaby stabiliser uses hardened steel pads to dress a mandrel to desired diameters within specific size range groupings. ( 12 ¼" - 11 ¾"; 8 ½" - 7 7/8"; 6 ½ - 6") The tool is fully re-dressable in remote locations. The pads are held in place using the patented wedge lock system. The pads are machined so as to present to the hole wall a radial profile.
This reduces the friction and consequent vibration generated between the stabiliser and the hole wall. The steel pads have a greater resistance to wear than hard facing dressed stabilisers. There is also the possibility of partially redressing the stabiliser in the field should the lower pads/blades become worn.
When drilling sections through sticky unconsolidated formations where stabiliser pack off is an issue the use of the Wallaby will, by way of its many fluid courses around the tool, reduce the incidence of packing off and the resultant formation pressure issues.
